Scott County

Scott County grew along the Mississippi River, where transportation, manufacturing, trade, and migration shaped Davenport and the surrounding communities. Founded in 1837 and named for General Winfield Scott, the county became a major eastern gateway for Iowa. Its identity still follows the river, but it also stretches into productive farmland, wooded parks, and smaller towns. Today the county is part of the bi-state Quad Cities region while retaining distinctly Iowa communities and rural landscapes.

A day in Scott County can move easily between city attractions and outdoor spaces. Downtown Davenport offers museums, entertainment, river views, and trails; Bettendorf adds parks, family attractions, and growing neighborhoods. LeClaire connects visitors with river-town history and Buffalo Bill heritage, while county conservation areas provide camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and nature programs. Seasonal festivals, local restaurants, college campuses, sports, and community events keep the county active throughout the year.
